Violence around demonstrations in Guinea-Conakry led to the death as many as 150 people on September 28, 2009. BEFORE Program Manager Melanie Kawano-Chiu spoke with VoA reporter Douglas Mpuga about the need for greater focus on the roots causes of conflict in Guinea, and not just the elections, and the understandable learning curve a military-lead government will have when trying to democratically govern a nation.
