“L’Atelier de Reflexion Sur Une Strategie de Consolidation de La Paix en Guinee”, the Reflective Workshop for the Consolidation of Peace in Guinea, began on May 26th in the West Africa. For the next three days more than 50 representatives from various sectors of Guinean society developed strategies to prevent tensions from turning into violence in Guinea. Guinea underwent a leadership change as national military leaders came to power almost immediately after the death of long-serving President Lansana Conte in December of 2008. Today Guineans are hopeful for their future in light of a troubled and difficult history.
